The Young Looking For London Apartments

London is an exciting place to live. If you are moving here for the first time, living in rented accommodation is a great place to meet people and housemates often become good friends. In fact, for the majority of younger people, the only option is to rent a property, despite the Mayor of London’s recent pledge to produce 50,000 new affordable homes in the capital within three years.

If you are a tenant looking for long term accommodation in London you can search for rooms, studio flats, houses, flat-share and apartments. For those looking for short term stays you can search for Bed and Breakfasts and hotels. The internet is awash with sites offering all sorts of accommodation.

However, one of the more affordable ways for younger people to set up home in the capital is under threat. If you are looking to Rent City Apartments , shared houses and flats in London could become a thing of the past if the Government changes the rules. Under recent proposals by the Housing Minister, planning permission would have to be obtained if an owner wanted to let a property to three or more unrelated people, thus giving councils powers to crack down on the worst landlords and stop the spread of high concentrations of shared homes where it causes other residents problems.

Nationally, about 20 per cent of privately rented homes are shared. The figure is higher in London and rising as home ownership and private renting becomes dearer. Sharing is the only option for many young people, including students and the low-paid.

The chairman of the National Landlords' Association said: “London needs shared housing and what we have is a nimbys' charter' which will create no-go areas for landlords, students, young professionals and low-income families.”

The National Union of Students said it would force students to live in large ghettos outside the community. This strategy will cause young people in particular to have to live further out of the city and what they may save in reduced rent they will have to pay in increased commuter charges.
